Program
For 50 years the Shady Lane Nursing
Home served the needs of Gloucester
County residents. After a new
nursing home was constructed, the
county departments, located in
separate and leased space, were to
be consolidated into the reconfigured
building. Becica Associated began
with a two-part strategy - assess the
existing conditions of the building and program the needs of the county
departments. A Master Plan has
been developed for the building, as
well as several adjacent structures.
In all government work, budget and
schedule are key factors. Becica
Associates has adopted an approach
to preserve as much of the buildings
systems and infrastructure while
weaving in a new use significantly
different from the building’s original
function. Key areas are adjacencies,
employee comfort, accessibility,
technology and HVAC systems. This
project is currently in the Schematic
Design Phase.
