Gloucester Township, Camden County, New Jersey
Program
A 138,000 square foot middle school was designed to house 1300 students and was located on a 30-acre site with fully developed athletic fields, bus loop and staging area. Becica Associates was
awarded the contract for design and construction phase services. 7th and 8th grade classroom wings were designed based on creating small communities for learning. Three groups of five classrooms are arranged in each wing. Fully integrated technology infrastructure is provided throughout the school.
Air-conditioning is provided throughout the school via an environmentally friendly gas absorption chiller that has no ozone depleting refrigerants. Overall building economy was achieved by maximizing floor area efficiency, careful selection of materials and a straightforward design solution.
